![]() A color management screen allowed us to adjust primary colors-a great addition. The CTI mode is said to improve color contours, but we couldn't detect any effect. We also appreciated the option to adjust color temperature, both high and low points, manually. There are five color temperature presets, and we found Low came closest to the NTSC standard. The PureCinema control selects between Off (no 2:3 pull-down) Standard (normal 2:3 pull-down) and Advanced (special 72Hz mode see performance for details). ![]() Selecting Pro Adjust in the picture menu opens up a slew of additional options. As you might imagine, the last is sponsored by the Imaging Science Foundation, an organization that (among other activities) certifies professional calibrators who, in this case, make use of special Pioneer software to calibrate the panel and set up the mode.Įach of these modes, except for Dynamic, allows you to adjust the picture controls, such as contrast, color, and so forth, separately for each input. The PRO-FHD1 has numerous picture adjustments, starting with seven preset picture modes: Standard, Dynamic, Movie, Game, User, Pure, and ISF Night. Pioneer does not make matching speakers you'll have to either connect your own to the panel's audio jacks or just use an external home theater sound system, a better move.Īnd of course you'll also need an external tuner-such as a cable or satellite box-or an over-the-air tuner to watch HDTV or any television broadcast on this monitor. You'll have to pay extra if you want to set it on a stand-Pioneer's PDK-TS23 (about $500) is the model the company recommends. This is the first plasma to have 1,920x1,080 pixels of native resolution on its screen, which lend the picture more detail with 1080i and 1080p sources than you'll see with lower-resolution panels, which typically have 1,366x768 pixels.Īll those pixels also provide more detail with computer sources, which can be set to 1,920x1,080 resolution and deliver every pixel, but they won't improve the look of 720p HDTV or standard-definition television.Īs we mentioned at the outset, the Pioneer lacks many of the features you'd expect in any television. The biggest item at the top of the Pioneer PRO-FHD1's spec sheet is its pixel count. The set's menu system is organized logically, although the nested selections in the picture menu seem to go on forever. We really liked the dedicated buttons for switching inputs, but that's really the only remote item worth mentioning. Pioneer's remote is as basic as beans, as we'd expect from a clicker that doesn't have to change channels. The panel measures 50.5 x 29.5 x 3.8 inches (WHD) and weighs 39.8 pounds. The only other remarkable item on the plasma's surface is the Elite logo and small, nondimmable LEDs that glow blue when the power is on and red when it's off. Instead there's a layer of dark-tinted plastic that extends slightly beyond the edge of the black on all sides, creating a subtle accent. The 50-inch pane of glass is set in the middle of a black frame that, unlike other Elite frames, isn't glossy. Understatement is the order of the day with the Pioneer PRO-FHD1. Compared to the Panasonic TH-50PF9UK, the other current 50-inch 1080p plasma, the Pioneer delivers slightly better picture quality at a more-than-slight price increase.Īlthough it's a bit too expensive to be considered our Editors' Choice in this category, the Pioneer PRO-FHD1 delivers the best picture quality of any television we've tested in the last year. And as a member of Pioneer's "Elite" subbrand, it includes picture-centric features, such as user-menu color temperature and primary color adjustments, which most users won't know what to do with.īut if you're willing to pay top dollar for the best 50-inch plasma on the market right now, look no further. ( ) - Pioneer's PRO-FHD1 isn't for everyone.Īs the first 50-inch plasma display to have a native resolution of 1080p - in other words, 1,920x1,080 pixels - it understandably costs a mint ($8,000 list).Īs a monitor, as opposed to a "true" TV, it lacks niceties such as built-in speakers, a tuner (ATSC or otherwise), or even an included stand. ![]() The door is left open each night too and so the lights attract more bugs and by the time you need to use the facilities in the am it is filled with all kinds of bugs. I find myself having to dodge webs in multiple areas of the bathroom. And there are a lot of webs and spiders, we're in the GA after all. No one ever takes a broom to knock down or sweep away the spider webs. However, I am not sure what they are doing to clean them. I noticed the bathrooms being serviced about twice a day. There seem to be plenty of bathrooms in each section. The campground overall is very nice and quiet. We didn't have many choices of where to stay in the Atlanta area, we were here for work and had to stay for about three weeks. The "full time Rv'er" who checked us in, the "Nana of 3" at the Camp store and Ms. Read the recommended entrance directions to avoid narrow and low overhung residential areas. We took a trip to downtown Decatur and saw a Braves game one night. Golf, wonderful hiking trails, boat and water craft rentals are all near by. The sites we stayed in had a fire ring, camp style grill and a table provided. We drove to the overflow golf parking and got it done. If you tow, it is a bit inconvenient to hook up when you leave. You get a pass at the camp check in to come and go. ![]() The camp ground does require a fee to the Amusement park to enter the facility. The workers within the camp store offered area suggestions that were direct on the money!. The best thing is the workers and staff within the RV facility! Check in was wonderful and informative. Beautiful lake view spots with a clean pool and clean available rest areas. The spots are crush and run and gravel but level and spacious. I really enjoyed the premium sites, and part of the park. We have already booked several more days thru out the fall. People were super nice in registration and all around the park. I am not sure if they park employees or what but do not stay on that loop. Looks like alot of long term campers that do not keep up appearences. We were in site 338 (pull thru) trail M (Red) which again was not level but just added 2 pads on the one side and it leveled up fine. Alot of sites are obvioulsy not level but not to the point that a few leveling pads wouldnt fix, however there are a few that are really bad but it looks like they are not even letting people book those sites. The sites that are more questionable are in the Red and Blue sections. So all of the Purple and Orange sites are all good from what we saw and we noted several that have better views than others. We drove the entire campground to check out sites and some roads are worse than others but they are all passable. The park is old and yes the roads are a little rough but not as bad as the reviews made it seem. So we were very hesitant to stay at this campground due to the reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. ![]() Find the nearest store and consult its address and phone number. ![]() After the vocals were overdubbed, Flood and The Edge mixed the track at Westland Studios. Flood treated Bono's vocals with heavy reverb to compliment his "falsetto soul voice", while Mullen provided two tracks of backing vocals, one with a falsetto and one with his natural singing voice. Flood subtly added gating to his voice "to turn the level down when he wasn't singing." The addition of The Edge's vocals, for the most part, completed "Numb". His vocals were recorded at Westland Studios in Dublin, where the band spent one day for the album sessions. He said that writing the lyrics "came very quickly", and that he wrote so many lyrics that two verses had to be cut from the song. The Edge spent several hours in another studio with the mix demoing ideas, eventually adding vocals in a monotone, almost rapped delivery. The song's biggest contribution came while the band were organizing the final running order for Zooropa. According to Flood, "The idea of his overdubs was to make up music out of non-musical noises, like loops of pieces of dialogue and video samples." The Edge called Eno's additions "fantastic". Some of the samples included Arabic voices and congas. Eno added about six or seven tracks of keyboards to the submix, mostly samples and strings from a Yamaha DX7 synthesiser. At Windmill Lane Studios, producer Brian Eno began working with a stereo submix of the Berlin version, containing guitar, bass, bass pedals and drums, that Flood had created. ![]() ĭuring the Zooropa sessions of February–May 1993, U2 revisited the song. Guitarist The Edge said, "It almost worked," calling it a "quite unhinged electronic backing track with a very traditional melody and lyrics" sung by lead vocalist Bono. The band was not fond of the track- Zooropa co-producer Flood, who was engineer for the Achtung Baby sessions, said it was "quite a ballady song and in the end it was decided that it didn't fit" on that record. "Numb" originated as a discarded song from the Achtung Baby sessions called "Down All the Days" (later released in the premium editions of Achtung Baby 's 20th anniversary reissue) that was recorded with producer Daniel Lanois at Berlin's Hansa Studios. U2 added "Numb" to their live setlists after resuming their Zoo TV Tour in May 1993. The song was released as a VHS single, featuring a music video directed by Kevin Godley, but it did not attain widespread commercial success. While recording Zooropa, the band transformed the song with mixing assistance from co- producer Flood, the addition of keyboards and samples by co-producer Brian Eno, and the addition of The Edge's monotone vocals. "Numb" originated as a discarded song from the Achtung Baby recording sessions called "Down All the Days". U2 lead vocalist Bono and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. The noisy composition and lyrical concept for "Numb" were inspired by the theme of sensory overload, which had prominently been incorporated into the Zoo TV Tour. The song features a monotonous mantra of "don't" commands spoken by guitarist The Edge amidst a backdrop of various sound effects and samples. That's kind of the point of Consumer Reports. so it seems darn obvious there is an issue, whatever Apple's "advanced and extensive" internal testing may (or may not) indicate. And many end users - even before CR said anything - had already been reporting these same problems. I expect they will run things more along the lines of how a typical non-technical Mac user will run things, because CR's team probably isn't that much more knowledgeable about Macs than the typical end user. I don't expect the Consumer Reports' crew to be experts on this sort of thing. ![]() I think you are missing the point, if you think this is about "advanced and extensive" testing. From Apple's perspective this IS primarily a PR problem at the moment because it is highly unlikely that CR's testing is so advanced and extensive that they would be able to detect issues that Apple internally could not.Įspecially things like extremely varying battery life ranging from 4.5 hour to 19.5 hours. ![]() It could be that the macOS Big Sur downloads are failing due to a developer site issue or the developer site could be failing under the strain of macOS Big Sur demand, but it is clear that those hoping to get the new software should hold off until things are more stable.Īpple's System Status page is listing an issue with macOS Software Updates and says that the problem is "currently being investigated. That is nonsense. Of the thousands I have sold this year I am only aware of one person that bought the card for someone else, all others have framed them and continue to buy the entire collection. I know it sounds crazy but people are used to getting cards and then throwing them out after a while so they are totally surprised when you tell them it will fit any frame they have. One tip I have found out is people or store managers do not know what a photo card is exactly so I sell as Frameable photo cards and explain that they can go anywhere and purchase a 5x7 frame for next to nothing.the stores which sell frames are very happy because they also get co-lateral sales of their frames. I pay a total of $150 approx for 200 complete sets and sell for $5 each which gives me a great profit. I think marketing comes into play when you are selling them to individuals or stores etc. I order the card stock and envelopes and crystal clear bags all for under $100 for 200 cards and then buy all the 5x7 paper on sale on e-bay or staples 2 for 1 sales and print out all the 5x7 prints at home. Then just glue or double side tape them and your done. not a great return.ĭo any of you bother with greeting cards? Are there options I am missing? Thanks. $660 profit for spending $840, after time making/marketing the cards. Wholesale to stores for $1.50 leaves $.66 profit per card, but that involves stuffing and taping tons of cards. Option #2 - Buy prints from Smugmug for $.19, plus card blanks and envelopes online for $.65 (per 1000) = $.84 ($840). (And Smugmug's card creation area was not working last time I checked last week.) But how? People go to stores for greeting cards. I could get cards cheaper by printing 10,000 at a time in China, but I don't want that many. Option #1 - Smugmug will print cards for $1.50, so if I want $1 profit, that's $2.50 wholesale, but stores can't sell cards for $5. I have images that would sell on local greeting cards, but the business math hardly adds up. It may be worth it to free up my time from card production to playing with my son or sleeping. I haven't really looked into printing costs from an online print company. I am not making tons of money but the cards do sell so it's worth it to me to know that people like what I do and are willing to part with some of their money for it. I wholesale the cards for $1.50 and I retail them directly for $2.00. I calculated the materials cost at $0.41 per card. I sell at a few local art fairs each year and have cards for sale in two retail locations. It is so much simpler and faster to make new cards. I have since switched to using a template I made in Pages. I used Adobe InDesign initially for my template and it worked well. You can see some of the cards that are for sale here: I ordered small plastic sleeves from Clearbags and I have a very high quality, attractive product. The 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 envelopes are a perfect fit. I can print two cards per sheet, cut in half and fold. I have also been using the double sided matte paper from Staples for a few years now.
